Buried pipelines are always subjected to external forces from the world above. To ensure operational safety and structural integrity they have been designed considering a variety of scenarios that could occur. Even so, unpredictable events cannot be accounted for and can cause excess force, which results in geometrical changes such as deformations and bending. Deformations cause stress in the metal pipe walls creating vulnerable high stress concentration areas hindering structural integrity. The same occurs with unwanted bending, resulting in bending strain and loss of structural integrity due to pipe wall thinning.

The unique footprint that is left by stress in the magnetic field can be picked up and analyzed by Current Magnetometry Inspection (CMI). We provide our clients with a complete stress overview for their pipelines caused by any and all stress sources, pointing top any locations that might be suffering from deformations and bending strains.
